It wasn't too long ago when kids didn't need to worry about
their privacy being invaded. All they had to do was close their
bedroom doors and the real world became a faraway place.
With the increased use of telephone solicitation, mailing
lists and databases, camcorders and other recording equipment, and
computer storage of personal information, however, kids in the
1990s need to be aware of what constitutes an invasion of their
privacy.
"Your Privacy" presents a reflective analysis of privacy
issues, from basic constitutional rights and protections, to
privacy in the home, at school, on the job, and on computers.
Though Dolan relies heavily on just a few sources and totally
disregards the abuses that can occur on computer networks such as
the Internet, or the availability of encryption software to
maintain computer security, the book is satisfactory as a general
introduction to privacy issues and to warn kids to protect
themselves, as well as those around them. Recommended for both
schools and libraries. Grade C+.
